The Workshop
A workshop is a meeting of writers. Typically, this meeting is held weekly, and structured as a type of roundtable, where each week, one writer takes his or her turn being “workshopped”—which means their novel, story, chapter, selection, or essay is read by all members of the group, and is then discussed with the goal of helping the writer:
understand what they are writing
how it is received
and what they can do in revision to help their artwork realize its full effect on the world.
Many writers enjoy and seek out workshops because each workshop is an opportunity for structure, deadlines, sharing work, receiving feedback, developing critical language & ability, and spending time in the company of other writers.
Like any good meeting (to the point, closed to the public), workshops typically have a leader—which is the professional service offered on this page.
As workshop leader, Richard will drive the discussion, ask questions, offer insight, provide lines of inquiry, give written feedback, and be available (and up to date) for developmental editing moving forward.
His workshops will meet once a week at a regular time. Each workshop will be 60 minutes and begin with a short summary, a selected reading, and then enter a directed discussion.
The running length of each workshop will be equal (in weeks) to the number of writers.
Each writer will receive written feedback immediately after their workshop ends.
The cost per writer is $240.
